Whats eating the Alstromeria?

Thats a shame, as its in a pot perhaps copper bands might help?

Do you think it is slugs Drc?... i cant find any...:<(

Have a look around where there are any stones or other pots they will eat at night and hide else where, I found tiny slugs last year under the leaves of my lilies which they ate, either that or the dreaded lily beetle which can fly, as I ve found them on two of my plants and they were not on my lilies.

Hope its not lily beetle, Sixpence....I've never had them and i always grow lots of lilies which are about to bloom soon....In saying that, ive never grown Alstromeria until this year...I have 2 pots of them, sitting alone on 2 steps....I'll go check again....thanks

Ahrr if you have them on steps look to the side of the steps if any snails or slugs are hiding there, lily beetle leaves a brown stuff under side of leaf and burries their eggs in the soil so I ve heard, which then its best to change the soil like I did a few years ago.

No beetles...no slugs..I put a few pellets along the steps where they join the decked area....Its the only place they could come from.....:<(

I don't blame you they could be sticking under the steps if there are gaps between.

Moti, it's most likely Lily Beetles.

They discovered my alstros about a year after i'd planted them, i don't see many but do every now and again.
What you could do is spray with Provado asap and you'll find that that is effective for a couple of months or so.

I find that slugs eat the brand new growth of alstros, as they emerge from the ground - but not really as they grow up.

Louise...I know what lily beetle look like, (quite pretty)..but i have never actually seen one...Are they a day-time insect or night-time....or worse...ALL the time?

Moti, I had quie a few plants being eaten and couldn't seem to find anything, but I found the culprit in the end, it was a little minute caterpillar (green) and not even anywhere near as thick as a matchstick. They are very hard to find as they blend in with the leaves. I had a willow a few years ago and they stripped it. Nearly every leaf had been eaten. I was gutted, so keep your eye out Mot before they get chance to multiply (if its them)

I've only seen them in the day, Moti, and not that often.

Although i get a lot of caterpillars here i've never once seen one on my alstros, and i have loads of these in my gardens.

Ok...I'll keep an eye out for all those things..lol
