Slipper Orchid - Ulla Silkins . Loves early morning sun (Cool sheltered dappled shade with orchid soil ) . Doing very well and bulking up nicely ! So delicate and interesting to behold .

Dear Meanie
My slipper orchids are left outside , however, I have planted them in the smallest courtyard I have and they have walls on 3 sides (which act as radiators ) keeping the area warmer than it would otherwise be and protected. The only exposed side faces west , so it is a very protected microclimate and the slipper orchids are in containers and face east (protected by wall) where they get morning sun (which they love) and dappled shade plus cool roots . These conditions suit them as you can see and they have not only survived but thrived , putting on more bulk each year.

Thanks for that!
I fancy trying these, but would hate to lose any at the price they are. Are they dormant over the winter? I've just made an insulated raised bed which will be covered for the winter. It's up against the fence on the west side, so similar conditions.

Do you leave these out over the winter or protect them?
