No, they certainly are not. I read that a lot of gardeners kill them as they think they are garden foes. They certainly look like foes. It is just like catterpillars and other larvae. look nothing like their parents until they metamorphosise.

This is the first time I have ever seen a ladybird larva, Alex - not at all like the adult is it ?
