Aren't they great? They are deep shade perennials and here they are wildflowers! They like moisture and shade. check out Arisaema triphyllum.

This one is gorgeous Lori, much prettier than the one I have, that's native to Taiwan. Arisaemas are unfortunately very rarely found here.

I wonder if it is the pH of the soil...Is your soil alkaline or acid? or perhaps it's not soil but the temperature variation from season to season? I have found three so far, and all are in a different type of situation...one is under three huge whitepine, well mulched with pine needles and in the thick of the ferns, the other is in among the daylilies on the southwest corner of the house...the last one is part way up the trail into the forest! I think water may be the determining factor...all are in damp spots.

I believe it's mostly due to our hot, dry summers. That's why I purchased the one I did, because they prefer dry conditions. I thought it might have a chance here. I apparantly got lucky, it finally started multiplying this year !

I'm glad to hear that your Jacks have decided to be mathematical! You know, I almost said, "maybe I should wait and see if I can find more JITP....sure as shootin' I've found a group growing near the rhubarb! They're smaller than the above but looked happy and healthy. It also looks like I'm going to have to wage war with slugs! You should see the size of the devils...and I just bought a lovely Hosta Bressingham Blue... to go with Blue Boy...found a couple of holes in the little blue boy's leaves!! grrrr...but have managed a small revenge, as in one of the diversions of the creek, I dug up an area for bog plants, and with all the rain we've had it's good and flooded...should see all the drowned slugs!

You go girl ! Hope this doesn't sound cruel to others, but I do get great satisfation in outwitting the vermen around here too. Just wish my record were better.... They always seem to be winning....lol. Just yesterday I noticed two of my sweet potato vines were missing. Nothing left but a whole. I took my fat cat out there and told her she would have to do a better job, that I'd just lost about 8 bucks because she was slacking on me. Next thing I knew, she was ramming her arm all the way up to her shoulder down in the holes then turning around to look at me....lol. It was like she understood what I said. I just laughed and patted her on the back and said, all right, I'll cut you some slack, guess it's better late than never...lol.

Aww....poor Buffy. She was saying..."sorry Mom...looks like they've cleared out!" lol....or maybe she was thinking..."I wonder what she'd do if I started digging?" lol....
