Got me wondering who he was Moti.
Ernest Markham was William Robinson's Head Gardener at Gravetye Manor in Sussex. Markham was himself the author of books on clematis.

So now I know! :-)

Nice one Muddy...William Robinson was talked about quite a lot at Chelsea this year, wasn't he?...
