They were weeds where I grew up, but here they're a cherished annual

Where was that, Rosalie?

In a settlement in the Negev in Israel.
They were planted in gardens, but spread like dandelions. You'd mow them, and they'd just grow shorter stems next time.
I laughed when I saw them sold as annuals here, but then broke down and purchased a few. If they do well in our wooden 'troughs', I'll try keeping some seeds for next year. I know they can take heat and drought!

I guess that is true, what they say, a weed is just a flower growing where it isn't wanted. Can't imagine mowing these though, I feel guilty enough with the silly dandelions and actually try to mow around the violets! So when did you move to Canada & how long did it take to adjust to our "winter wonderland" ?

Our family lived there for 10 years, and we moved back here in 82(I was born here).
I remember all the adults having their afternoon nap because it really was very hot and dry, but us kids don't notice these things and it was always play time. When we moved back I quite liked the cold, and to be honest, these days I am much happier temperature-wise in February than in June.
