Claire, you might find this plant useful. As Michaella says it is a campanula. It seems to grow in the most inhospitable places without being looked after. I found some in my garden and just left it and it has gradually spread.

okie dokie thanks, it stretches from the flower bed to the gate along the wall so it brightens up the end of the garden :)
