Thank you Meanie. I knew it had to be weed bc of the rate of growth and now the name makes sense bc it truly does seem to "bind" itself to EVERYTHING. I have tried to keep on top of it but seems impossible. Any suggestions?

You'll have to get the roots - all of them to I believe. It's very resilient.

It's impossible as they originate from my neighbours yard. After I googled it with Meanie's ID, I found out it has to eradicated at the source, obviously. I just never realized how EVIL it was. :)

It would do no harm to try and isolate the stems you have and spray with a solution of 2,4D. Mine had years to get a firm grip before I arrived and I do this 2 or 3 times during the growing season...I don't think I can ever eradicate it, but it is under control... :/

The roots can go down more than 8 feet and the seeds can lie dormant in the ground for up to 30 years! Don't let it flower!!!

2,4D will not affect grass, but it will harm everything else - so do be careful! I use a small hand spray and a cardboard shield to try to limit accidental spray damage...other people use paintbrushes or stuff the vine into a plastic bottle. I've got just too much of the stuff for that... :((

This 2,4D (dimethylamine salt) is a dedicated bindweed killer and is designed for use in orchards in France...my life changed when I discovered it! :))

You will be able to find it as a propriety brand, I think! :))

Just one last effort to persuade!lol!
This stuff is systemic and so will go all the way back to the neighbour's roots...if you can just unwind or coax around a third of the stems into a sprayable place...canes are good for this!
Pulling it will only encourage more growth...sadly, I know this from experience... :((((

Alright Karen, you have persuaded me and more importantly given me a great excuse to stop this battle today. I will google this info and see what is available here. Hopefully something equivalent as we have quite stringent controls on pesticides here.

Okey dokey, Lil...been there and done it, as they say!...and am now just a bit OCD myself when it comes to bindweed! Please forgive me! lol!! :))
