Black Out Lily and Yellow Zinnia

Black Out Lily and Yellow Zinnia (Lilium speciosum (Lily))

The lilies I put in last year, thinking they were half as tall as they turned out. These bright Zinnias have been looking wonderful with them, although a little tender to our cool weather. One of my knockout returns from winter.

That is a lovely Lily!

Thank you. I couldn't believe this is the return from putting in just six bulbs last year. This is only one of two clumps from those six. And three feet tall. Last year they were about 18 inches.

that looks fabulous.
my lilies have grown taller than last year ~ about the same height difference as yours.

Mine were superb after our extra hard winter, so I'm not surprised at your success!

Have to agree mine obviously liked the cold as well.
Yours look fabulous Gt, I`ll still leave Alaska to you though, I`ll admire from afar and the comfort of my armchair through your pics and blogs,lol.....

Lol, thank you. I've been shocked they are performing so well. I've others I've been growing for years that haven't doubled in height. Still, I know there are different varieties. I had never thought they would like cold weather, but they are one of the more trusted perennials here. At least the asiatic varieties. I put in a white and orange in another beds, maybe it will be this tall next year too. I'm hoping. Its a much larger clump already.

Lincslass, if you could just feel the warm penetrating sunshine and cool breeze in the garden today. This indian summer is like heaven on earth. :) No thoughts of winter at all.

Thank you both, this is really my pride this year. Just couldn't have worked out better.

Sandra, lol i don't blame you. :-) We had wet rainy days all of August, so I'm soaking in this good weather as much as possible. Theres a chill at night now. Lost both the cucumbers already.

its been non stop wind and rain for a week...and still more to come. i still have visitors booked into my tipi and yurt which have already survived 40 mile an hour winds. But enjoy your sunshine GT...i'm sure we will get some before our winter sets in..:-)

How enjoyable sounding to me, staying out in the yurt in the wind and rain.....thrilling I would think. Damp for sightseeing, but a great coastal experience. :-) I hope it does brighten up for you. We are giving up the heat to the clear skies, first hard frost last night, wont know what came through until afternoon. Most of my stuff is tough, but a few things will inevitably be lost.

What else?

See who else is growing Lilium speciosum (Lily).

See who else has plants in genus Lilium.

This photo is of "Lilium, 'blackout'" in Greenthumb's garden
