The Tui is one of NZ's most well-loved birds, & although it lives mainly in native bush areas, it can be enticed into a private garden by growing a native Kowhai tree, as the Tui just cannot resist the sweet nectar of the pretty yellow kowhai flower. We are lucky enough to have a pair of Tuis visiting daily, as we have a fully-mature kowhia tree hanging over our back fence, & another smaller one along our driveway. A beautiful bird which has a very distinctive song.

These are lovely!
Much more agreeable that the Kea too.......

Yes, totally agree. The Kea is wonderfully cheeky & a feathery rascal, but there is that horrible side to it, which I am not going to mention here, which I cannot cope with at all.

I zipped my tent up when I went out one day (it was raining) and when I returned they had tore holes in it to get in. They crapped over everything too, which they didn't seem to do if you allowed them easy access!

Keas keep the tourists amused by their comical antics .... but they can be very naughty. They will pull car wipers off & pinch people's food if they can get to it. And obviously they can be quite destructive too, as you found out. The Tui is very polite & quite shy, unlike the Kea parrot.

I haven't been to any of the World Cup rugby matches, although I could have gone to Georgia playing Rumania last Wednesday, & Argentina playing Nimibia yesterday ... both matches were played within 40 mins of where I live. But I had surgery on the Wednesday & now back home recovering from that. I'm not really a rugby fan, but my husband is.

Thanks Homebird. I'm 7 days post-surgery now & finally able to sit at the computer for a short time again. Feeling a little bit less pain with every passing day, so am definitely on the mend.
