Lovely little tundra valerian in a wet pocket along the mountainside. I don't find this often at all so was pleasantly surprised to come across it. Always look like they should be a sweet smell to me, I don't know about you. Alas, no smell at all.

There is a wild allium of that sort here as well. It has a distinct smell. The death camas I posted is another look-alike for wild alliums. This valerian is more woody-stemmed blooming up from a matted groundcovering, a tundra flower.

How is it that you know full Latin names of flowers? Bravo!

Thank you Katarina. I knew the natives from early study, but from GOY i realized latin is the universal plant language, so I started learning. I took to it quickly once I realized how useful knowing a family and genus name can be to recognize and research new things by sight, and sudden snowball effect, latin spouts out my ears.......lol.

Thank you Rbt. I love to find valerian. This is just the third I've come across all these years. My first of this little species.

Thank you. I was glad to get such a good shot as I so rarely see them.
