A few seconds later and the sunset had gone and the sycamore tree was even a darker shadow.

silhouetted - Thanks for that Sheilar, just did not know hoe to spell. The sycamore is one of two tiny trees planted just outside my back fence about 35 years ago. The trees are now massive. Their roots come under my garden and suck every bit of moisture from the bottom half making it so dry even it being clay. Some of our pavements have buckled as trees were planted all round our estate but without much thought of the growth and root ball size. My friend had a Eucalyptus tree planted about 6 feet away from his house by a next door neighbour. You had to see to believe. The whole of one wall came away with a crack over 4" wide from under the gutter going to 2" at ground level. The house had to be completely underpinned costing more than the price of the house. This was some 25 years ago.
I always thought it was a willow tree you had to avoid like the plague. The original neighbour who planted the tree had long gone so both my mate and the neighbour's insurance paid. Not many people think before they plant. Your garden plants look really good and you seem to know all of their names. What a genius

It's amazing Tommy isn't it, the damage trees can do to pavements and property. It seems a lot of 'innocent' trees can become monsters. Thanks for your comments on my blog - I like to know the names of plants for some reason!!

I memorise the names of the plants when I put them in but then forget what they are. Next year I have decided to photograph and name plants when I plant out
