The pigeon usually drinks first while the Dove (top right hand corner) eagerly awaits it's turn. I do have another source of water for the birds but they seem to have a preference to this watering hole

Yes Sheila, they do act as a lookout for each other, when I was not so good I sat in a chair near the French doors spending hours looking at the out side world. The doves are very cautious if they think a cat is about but are fearless when a Magpie is on the scene especially when nesting in my neighbours leylandii . PS thanks for the spelling Sheila, I've been spelling leylandii as leander. Excuse my spelling as I spell as I hear.
