jewel and cattleya orchids Jan 11

Our orchids are in bloom again. They seem to like this south-facing window, as they have grown to more than twice their size since last year.

It's Ludisia discolor. Most of the year it just has the very pretty velvety striped green and purple leaves. Then these long stems appear with a mass of tiny white flowers on top. I grew them from slips that my son took 5 years ago. His plants have yet to bloom!

These are lovely. The one in the front is so interesting. I've never seen one like that.
