Oh well, I will just have to get another one. I do that a lot Tommymoo....if it looks like a weed or grass that will spread through the garden, I pull it out. Oh when will I learn!?!?!

That looks like quite a clump!

It's just difficult to differentiate a precious garden plant from a weed sometimes!

You nailed that one Tommymoo. :o)

Meanie, this iris is very strange, at least to my eyes, because it seems it spreads by seeds (but I'm not 100% sure). Last year I saw brown seed pods coming out from the bottom of the leaves, maybe in summer, and there are loads of tiny seedlings around the clump. Weird thing!

Alex, I inherited these irises and thought they were weeds! A peony grows at the same place, and I tried to get rid of the grass-looking things to protect the peony but I couldn't because it was merely impossible to pull out only the irises. That was lucky in retrospect :o)

LOL....I pulled this clump out thinking "need to keep this part clear for the bulbs underneath" Oh well, live and learn and then make mistakes again...

So you had the same one as mine maybe? Did yours bear seed pods?
25 Jan, 2012
Yeap, the same as yours Tommymoo.
I didn't see any seed pods last year.

Maybe the seed pods I saw were NOT the irises'.

What else?
See who else is growing Iris unguicularis (Iris).
See who else has plants in genus Iris.
This photo is of "Iris (Algerian iris / winter iris / iris unguicularis)" in Tommymoo's garden
