Phals soaking up the rainwater.

When the roots look pale I stand the pots in the washing up bowl filled with rainwater and orchid feed until the compost has soaked through, then let them drain on the draining board. The roots turn a brighter green and I leave them alone until the roots once again look pale in about a week to ten days. The orchid food container instructions say to flush the compost through with plain water once a month to avoid build up of salts. I must be doing something right because they seem healthy enough.

That's a pretty delicate shade of pink...I do the same with mine,Homebird..I don't know if it makes any difference,but when I draw water off from the water butt,in this weather,it's so cold,so I put it in a big jug,and take the chill off in the Microwave first ! Sounds daft,but I wouldn't like to have a wash in icy water .:o).I know I could wait for it to come to room temperature,but I'm a bit impatient sometimes...
