Lilium Lady Alice

Lilium Lady Alice (Lilium Lady Alice)

This is a tiny bulbil growing out of a scale which had become detached from one of my new bulbs. I imagine it will be a few years until it reaches flowering size. The bulbs are 16-18cms. It looks like there could be 4 bulbils in total on this one scale.

i detach a few scales off my lily's every year in case of rot or viruses, they normally take between 3-5 years to flowering, good luck they look really healthy...

Thank you for that info. I have planted all of them today. I have planted in groups of three but widely spaced so if the bulbils develop they will have plenty of room to expand. Do you lift the bulbs every year? I had expected them to be hardy especially as they are due to flower early summer in UK. That will be May/June I would think. Maybe a bit later this year since they have just gone in.

any new bulbs that i buy i meant/or the rarer types i lift every year..., Yes they are hardy, i keep mine in the ground and split up after 2-3 years, as they can get a bit congested...yes that sounds about right may/june next year, possible june /july this year...

It is nice to have thoughts confirmed Surreylad. Thank you. I aim to have a few more liles now I have found them reasonably easy to care for. I have a Martagon but they are prohibitively expensive. Most of my others are Oriental trumpet types. They do last a long time in flower.

I was going to say I can't wait to see them but there is so much else opening in the garden every day I am kept busy snapping. I am determined to keep a good log of the plant life this year and see how it compares.

I had to take my car for its MOT today so OH came along to take me home and we decided to have a day out in Fife. I have his car well trained and of course we ended up at a Garden Centre in Freuchie a litle village north of Kirkcaldy. It was new to us and i was delighted to find they had a fantastic range of seed potatoes available. They were selling them by weight so it was just a case of 2 of this and two of that. I had a great time. I also bought some perennials and some bulbs and he got some W clips to fix the greenhouse glass in place. It was only about 10deg but no wind so we had a lovely time. We have been cooped up recovering from 'flu so it was a real treat. They had a fantastic range of pots for the garden which I very sensibly decided not to buy - but its not so far to nip back. lol.

I nearly had a heart attack one time when we had a new car and it went past a GC. OH's exclamation of woe had me slamming on the brakes because I thought something was wrong and I had missed it. He collapsed in his seat saying the car was rubbish it did not recognise the need to stop at every GC. I could have killed him but i turned the car round so we could go and revive ourselves with a cuppa and teach the car 'her indoors' must be obeyed. We are easily amused. No other cars around at the time.
