Thats a Lovely clump,How long have they been in that position i envy you being able to grow them in the open Have tried many times But they rot after about 18 months even in troughs and raised areas. The only ones that are happy out are the small Japanese Primulas.

Hi Bjs
That particular clump has been in the garden for about 25 years. Not all P. marginata forms do so well outside. I have a number of clumps like this but some others, such as P. m. caerulea & White Linda Pope will rot at ground level after a couple of years. Another which does extemely well in the garden is P. m. Linda Pope.
I am over in Lincolnshire, one of the drier parts of the UK only half a mile from the Humber Estuary. The primulas do suffer in very hot weather.
