The pond is a great feature. I would change some of the straight lines to more curved borders. The square area above the pond as we see it and the next rectangular area joining could be made into more of a jellybean curve roughly in the same proportions. Second to that I would grass, flag or gravel the path to it's full width where there are six flags in a row. That would give a nice walk through for full borders on either side.

Severnside, thank you soooo much for the suggestions. And you know what, I was thinking along the same lines.....too many straight lines in this garden.

No problem at all, glad we see the same potential. Don't start stripping out all the border edgers as some of them provide useful reference points. The ones I would remove are the line that seperates the square and rectangular borders above the pond (really the top edge of the square border). Then all of the edgers that mark the long side of the rectangular border. Then I would take the three flat slabs adjacent to that border and store them to one side. That should leave a clear space to start working out a new border. I can just make out 10 slabs not including the straight path. They could be useful to make up the straight path better, but that's a later project.

I like that plant on the edge of the pond, once you put some more plants in it will soften a lot of the edges and obviously look greener.
I wondered about moving some of those square blocks and making a meandering path that curves? You might want to sort out where that path will lead, eg a sunny area for seating or a rockery?
Also perhaps some difference in height might help, maybe some sweet peas or a clematis growing up and around one of those tall cone shaped structures?

I defer to Sticki, superior vision and plant knowledge by far :)

Definately will make a difference when it is warm enough to do some planting. I will work on "softening" the edges this weekend and post an update. I am somewhat limited as I do have to take into account the comings and goings of my 70 pound dog. She really makes it challenging! I really appreciate you all taking the time to comment.
