I did...:( apricots are not forever...it fell to some weird decay. I noticed some fungi near the base to find out it was rotting away.

so sad, but everything has it's time eh? You could always grow clematis up the stump!

Oh, i just placed a bowl of calendulas on top pfmthe stump. I wonder...if I just smash it with a pickaxe, dig a small hollow pit and let the roots rot away...can I just try and plant a new tree? Not earlier than late October of course. That's when we plant trees, in cool temperatures and lightnrain.
