Magna, it would really help if you loaded photos the right way up. I have a laptop so can turn round but other folks will need to stand on their heads to look at this.

You need to rotate images before putting them up. What are you planning to do with this area and how big is it?

I will measure it and let you know, it's a sloping Patch with privet at the side and unknown hedge with honeysuckle growing though it at the front/street. Need inspiration..,.,,

I'd start by pruning both hedges back - hard!

I've decided this is going to be a rose bed, I love roses and only got 2 in the back garden that have never amounted to much as they are probably in wrong place, the area they are in has been taken over by ground elder, hedges getting chopped right down then will get it dug right over and ground prepared, am thinking some standards in the middle then bushes then low grower/rambler types. Still to measure the area out....

Until I know how big the area is can't say whether it is going to work for roses, also which way does it face - i.e. when does it get the sun. Roses need a very well nourished soil so you are going to need to dig in a lot of well rotted compost or manure once you have cleared out all the weeds. Don't be tempted to try and plant until you have removed all the weeds as it is much easier to dig them out when there are not prized plants around. I'm sure Teegee will have lots of advice and info on the planting and pruning of roses, they are a bit labour intensive in my view.

U don't mind a bit of hard work now i no longer have a toddler under feet, pacing it out, with the hedge n lonely shrub still in situ, it's 3 x 3 ish, south easy facing, gets sun from very early, with hedge down will be minimal/no shade. My granda grew roses I adore them, the smellier the better!

I forgot to say, this bit will be getting done right, as am
Very disappointed in the border I started last year and cut corners with :( got a riding school 5 mind away who will drop off bags of rotted manure to me.

Be careful with horse manure a) That it is actually well rotted and b) That the hay the horses have been fed has not had a problem with a specific weed killer, which unfortunately I can't remember the name of, but can cause problems with growing anything else. I will wander through my somewhat failed data base of a brain and hope I remember - otherwise send a PM to Bamboo whom I know does!

Thank you again x
