I don't think it's phlox. They usually have 5 petals. I think it's Dame's Rocket ...

What is Dame's Rocket Hywel?...Is it a weed of sorts?..

I was just reading up on it Hywel, seems you're right, four petals on the Dames Rocket (Hesperis Matronalis) and five on Phlox.....Seems it grows a mound of foliage in its first year and flowers in its second...Def wasnt there last year...lol...ps thanks H..:>)

It's a wild flower in some countries, but cultivated in gardens here.

The seeds might have spread naturally into your garden from somewhere else. I think it's pretty, but then it isn't in my garden ...

Lol....I'll let it stay a while, then decide...:>)

Yes that might be best :o)
Maybe you could plant it where you want it, rather than leave it wherever it seeds itself. Maybe it would fit in better then.
