This wintered over right here against the stone and sprang up as the ice pulled away from its roots. -40C for two months this winter. What an amazing little thing, cozy under my straw and the snow. It placed itself here to start out with. :-) They were seeds from Arlene years ago.

Lots of indoor time. :-) I think its beautiful, but enjoy the heat on inside. And thank you, they are happy little things.

They never fail to amaze me the way they pick up in the Spring, not sure mine would cope with -40C though ! :0))

I was shocked! I stared for a good five minutes in disbelief. One was growing with ice still clinging to the stem! I do cover them with a straw mulch but they are becoming one of the most trusted survivors, though not always in the same place. :-)

Just tough I guess. This is not the only color to have lived, just the biggest and best blooming. I knew they would reseed but did not expect the same plants to live year after year. Its great. :-)
Thank you. :-)

-40C for two months this winter. Oh Greenthumb how do you cope with that?
Almost enough sunshine coming from the flower to warm you through :)
