At its best in early summer, this patch is now two years old and the plants have almost 'merged' to cover the ground. The underlying soil is a bit heavy, so I lifted it all out and replaced it with a soil/gravel mix before planting. The ground slopes away quite steeply, so drainage is pretty good. Alliums and a choisia at the back and another choisia on the right next to a clipped box.

Looks wonderful ;)) All my Roses and my Paeoni are in almost a 50/50 gravel soil mix and they dont seem to mind especially with all the wet weather we've been having.
