Starting planting, reclaimed wood block, beech, used to be a chock for a Whitby fishing cobble, one of 3 for seating/plinth/ coffee table/ potting bench/ whatever.

Meanie..you said it! this plot was pasture until around 40 years ago when the farmer let the village make a playground here, I have had to clear years of docks, nettles, lolly sticks, swing foundations, toy guns, marbles, more lolly sticks, crisp packets, rough grass, more nettles, see-saw foundations...... more marbles, docks, nettles ... and all on heavy clay that flooded badly this spring.
Please all tell your children that crisp and sweet packets survive in the ground and pollute it for YEARS!

Good progress Potty & a lovely outlook you have got there :-)

The outlook is a small band of spindly hawthorn on the far field boundary then a small copse the far side of the next field then clear down to the sea 30 miles away, I am perched on the edge of the Pennines and wondering how my plants will survive the winter in such an exposed place. Fingers crossed ! The docks and nettles did all right for years so some things will survive ..I check out all the plant labels for hardiness.
