DD - it can reach twelve feet in ideal conditions, but for me it's generally six to eight feet

Good grief, as large as that? we are growing some Crinums in a pot, what is the difference, is it the size?

No, crinums and cardiocrinums are completely different. I assume you've got crinum powellii which is the one usually sold. It flowers in mid autumn so you've got a but of a wait yet and wants a well-drained soil and as much sun as possible (perhaps you'll have to take it on holiday to the Bahamas this year?)
