Rhipsalis capilliformis

Rhipsalis capilliformis

How can this mass of green wiry stems, just right for the hair of 'The Green Man' be a cactus or even related to one, but it is just that with lots of fine silvery bell-like flowers in the spring; a trailing epiphytic cactus from the American jungles. Its fine stems none much greater than a millimetre in diameter march inexorably across the windowsill from its pot-lair and only frequent clipping keeps it in check. Mankind beware, if this little hairy beast gets loose in the tropics it will engulf us all.

Don't worry, there's lots of critters that eat it in its native jungles!
