It is a wonderful plant but never makes it through my winters! I wanted to grow it all through the borders so I bought about 10 in my first summer.....only one made it!....so I gave up on the idea.....:(

What a shame - Packets of seeds are cheap, though.....:-)))

I guess I could buy a plant and overwinter cuttings in greenhouse...or overwinter plants in pots in greenhouse......or yes, seeds now that I have the greenhouse.....

I have hundreds of seedlings from this plant in the garden, between paving cracks etc. and am forever pulling them out ... grrr !

Pot them up, Shirley - grow them on and send them to Karen! LOL.

I would Spritz, but think of the postage cost . : o ) )

lol!! Thanks B! don't worry Shirley, I shall be growing these again now that I have the greenhouse....

Definitely cheaper buying a packet of seeds, Karen. Have you 'seen' what the GCs ask per pot?

Sorry, Shirley - it was meant to be a joke...but just think - you could make a fortune selling them 'to' the GCs!!!!! ;-)))

Yes! Indeed, that was why I abandoned the project...they were so expensive, about £7 per pot. I will look for some seeds. Thanks.

I have lots of babies - if they do well, I'll send you some. They took AGES to germinate, then thousands appeared....lol.

Thanks for the tip on germination! ;)

Micky kept saying that his were up and doing - mine weren't! Then - all of a sudden, there they were.

9 May, 2010

I'm not good at waiting, I would probably have chucked the whole lot just before they appeared!! lol

Yes Spritz, my comment was meant to show humour too ! I'm very cross today as my 'gardening journal' which has a record of plants bought, grown etc. cannot be found. I've even been through the re-cycling bin which is not to be recommended when it's due for collection tomorrow ! : o ( ( (

Oh no shirley! It will turn up....sure to. btw, do you ladies not find that this plant is just as attractive to butterflies as Buddleia? It's amazing to see them all hopping on an off the landing pads as the flowers sway in the breeze!

Definitely loved by Butterflies Karen, I first saw V.B. at Hampton Court about 5 years ago and bought one. Sadly, it didn't thrive, then a friend gave me some 'babies' from her garden and the rest is history ! Search for my book to be continued tomorrow. : o ( (

Yes, yes, yes! Even better than Buddleja, wouldn't you agree, Shirley? Sorry about your book - such a pain, losing things, especially such a valuable one. I hope it turns up. Look in the first place you looked again - that's where I usually find things! ;-)

OH really annoyed me by asking where I had it last ! Now, if I knew that, there would not be a problem.

9 May, 2010

True...he was only trying to help, though. I make my OH go round and actually 'look', not just make 'helpful' remarks! LOL.
