Strawberries

I've never even seen strawberries growing but Lori put the idea in my head...she's quite the influence!! So I picked up a strawberry pot, too. Those things are a bit on the ugly side. Anyone know if they are purely ornamental or is there actually a purpose to this peculiar shaped pot?
