I have just read my old book of all world symbols and I didn´t find either, why should peacock feathers bring bad luck. On the contrary, in early christianity, peacocks were often painted with small Jesus when he was born in Betlehem. It says, that they were considered to have power to kill demons and snakes. So really, do not understand, why a bad luck...

Could be a Maori thing, or could be an old wife's tale ...not even sure who told me that, but it was a long time ago, when it was fashionable in the 1970s to put peacock feathers in a tall vase & display them in your house. Having them indoors would bring us bad luck, I was told.

Hm, it is interesting to read about "old wife´s tales" from different cultures. It reminds me a pen friend in America, who was fond of collecting old furniture and accessories to his house. He had several old pieces, 200 years old etc. Majority of things he bought at auctions after somebody´s bankruptcy. I just asked him how is going his life, as I immediately thought on our old wife´s saying. It says, that if you get furniture or private thing from a person, who had to sell it because of lack of money or other emergency, those things will not bring good luck to the new owner, either.
His answer was, he got divorced, his wife took his house and he later lost employment. I know, just accident, but what an irony.

They are beautiful. It is supposed to be bad luck to have the feathers in your home ...I don't know why. I had them in my wedding bouquet & my husband had the 'eye' of a feather as background for the orchid on his jacket. A friend of mine had several white peacocks & he gathered up some discarded feathers & we had them as part of our floral arrangements at the wedding reception. Not bad luck for us!
