Ahh, Thank you Bornagain. That is why it looks different from the egrets...it is not an egret LOL :-)
Thanks for your visit.

You're welcome, we have lots of herons here, never seen an egret though:-)

Now, I was curious and "googled" and wiki tells me that they are basically the same spicies. LOL
"The distinction between a heron and an egret is rather vague, and depends more on appearance than biology. The word "egret" comes from the French word "aigrette" that means both "silver heron"and "brush," referring to the long filamentous feathers that seem to cascade down an egret's back during the breeding season"
Here (Mexico) the birds are white and they call them locally egrets. The gray one is an anomally.

Might be a migrant from here Klahanie:-) On the whole, I think the egret variety the more attractive. Do they raid small garden ponds like the herons do?:-)

I do not know Bornagain, But my feeling is ...probably not. This lake is full of tiny fish called charales (locally)which Mexian would fry and eat but North Americans would not touch them because the lake is polluted. When it is fried it looks little bit as french fries. That's the water birds diet here as well. I have seen many ponds here without any protection unlike where we live on the Vancouver Island. We do not have a pond but many neighbours have . I have not heard anybody complaining about the fact here ....and there are hundereds of egrets around. Fun to watch.

You're very lucky to be able to see such beautiful birds, I've only seen a pelican in a zoo:-)

The bird on the left is an egret. This is the first time I noticed one darker colored, usually they are white. I love to watch them to hunt for fish.
