Front boxes, The move 2

Front boxes, The move 2

And just 30 minutes later, perched atop the rail on the new porch. Next year they will hang on the joist again, I couldn't take my view so blocked.

i love those colours

I did plan a bit, knowing I could start pink fuschia, yellow abutilon and purple tradescantia from my houseplants, I just added a package of six orange picotee ruffled begonias and crystal palace lobelia for more blue. I've got loads more pics, as they really became fantastic in this dappled light. $12 for everything!

$12 ~ is that about £9?? in which case its a bargain! i ought to plan more like that ~ these look fabulous

It was great! And yes, so inexpensive. I keep fuschia overwinter and take spring cuttings, same with the other two species, they really fill in and perform well without purchase. I'm trying more house begonias and others this year. If you like something, take a fall cutting and winter over. My long winter and enhanced lighting, I can take new cuttings again from that in spring.

i need somewhere to store mine over the winter!

I keep them going under a light, since its too warm to let them go dormant. Cuttings usually around now when they are a bit leggy to keep them under control as far as size. Messy with leaves but they do well keeping going.

i have a garage but it has no natural light, maybe i could get a daylight bulb??

Sure, nice full spectrum fluorescent should do the trick.

not sure what it would do to the already too high electric bill?

26 Feb, 2013

Fluorescent are much lower than most, and using a timer can save being regulated. Here I would say about $6 a month? I use high-pressure sodium, that's more like $40.

eeeek thats a lot but i imagine it is essential

All my plants can winter on just the one. And I can bloom roses, which a fluorescent could not. I also supplement day with it, using a timer, so I escape our frozen black winter. Money well spent.

absolutely well spent
