Mid-Autumn in N.E. Downunder - Acacia simsii is blooming in the bushland

how different is this from mimosa?

I dodnes t know that acacia blooms with so Nice flowers!

Sticki, they are from the same family and I'm not sure just what the differences are. I know we tend to call Acacia, Wattles, rather than Mimosa though.

I only know about mimosa because my mum was given some when she was very poorly ~ it was over 50 years ago ~ we thought it was really special ~ i dont think you got much mimosa in flower shops then!

No Sticki, we don't see Mimosa in the flower shops here. The plant we refer to as Mimosa is the what we commonly call the Nerve Plant or Sensitive Plant, Mimosa pudica. It grows like a groundcover and is classed as an invasive weed here.

That sounds quite different!

No thankfully. There all in bloom around here at the moment, along with the Acacia leptostachya and Acacia mangium. That's one of the best things about the bush in the Autumn-Winter.
