Gas mantles?
28 Apr, 2013
Gas wall lights, Pcw.
When I was a kid some folk still used them.
An old fella used to do his rounds on a bike, in Glasgow, with a short ladder, which he used to get up to 'spark up' the streetlights.
In the mornings he'd use one of those thingummyjigs (Can't recall what they're called) to snuff them out, wait a few secs, 'til the control had cooled, then switch the gas off.
Us kids thought he had a brilliant job, along with the rag-and-bone man and the coalman. Lol.
