Oh dear, I had something similar with my trowel today :-)

Hi, Warwick. I noticed, that some people in GoY put on some sort of oil on the wooden parts of their garden tools. Maybe this helps to wood not to languish so quickly. I was checking for such oil here in shops, but they looked on me like on alien from Mars, lol. So I gave it up. But this is consequence. I have to change handles almost each year.

I use linseed oil Kat, my trowel the screws had rusted off but handle was ok so I re-screwed it back on :-))
