LOL...we really do have the same varieties! could this be "Karl Rosenfeldt"??? I have this type which I bought and brought with me...I think it's one of the "tree" peonies as it grows very tall and sturdy. It was an orphan at a plant sale..no label! All my peonies are just starting to get back on track they really don't like to be moved...but I just couldn't leave this one and the maxima!

This
Peony came from my father's garden over 30 year's ago and from his mother's before that . I do not know the name of it and the colour is a much deeper red than ever comes out in the pictures ... Close to burgundy . It does need support so I don't know if it is a tree variety .

It really is so beautiful. I like the "heirloom" varieties in most flowers..but especially the peonies. That Burgundy red is eye candy...don't think there's another flower that can compare with the vibrant colour of it. It's also a special keepsake of a sort. Have seen peonies blooming on abandoned farmsteads...untended for decades they continue to thrive. same with the orange daylilies and lilacs! Regardless of what else I may add to my flower garden those standards are always there. they keep me humble and appreciative of nature! ;-)
