Hi Jane, this plant belongs to the same family as tomatoes and potatoes :o)
Tomatoes are Solanum lycopersicum.
Potatoes are Solanum tuberosum.
If you leave the flowers on a potato plant, in time they will form berries like these, but they are not edible.
Deadly Nightshade also belongs to the same family :o)

looked up about this plant Hywel and it mention that the berries did look like small tomatoes :-) quite obvious really :-) (if your seen a tomato :-D) anyhow i waffle again :-) i like your Solanum capsicastrum and a very attractive berry it has for winter :-)
