Planted at the top of 'atrocity corner' 1 week ago and it has now opened its single flower.

Hi Sbg, what is atrocity corner. oh let me guess, that's where you put the odd plants that don't suit anywhere else, Derek.

No it was an area that took me 10yrs before I got round to tackling it. By then the brambles nettles dandelions etc were the atrocity.
My brother came to visit, the then new baby [she's 16 now] and admonished me on the 'atrocity' that was that bit of the garden. [bachelor, no kids, no ties!!!!]
He got short shrift, shown were the spades were kept and sent forth. The silver birch roots made digging almost impossible so it was hand weeding!
When ever he visits he always says he'll come providing he doesn't have to touch atrocity corner.
the name stuck and the silver birch are no more but their roots are.

Hi, so you showed him who's boss then, lol, Derek.

mmmh no Baby started to scream for food and that encouraged him to get out of the way. haha. I'm very close to him actually and we swap/share plants all the time. Its a shame we live 120 miles away.
he has a small garden [20x30ft] and every 2-3 years will dig everything up and offer me the perennials before revamping his garden. I've had some fantastic plants over the years.

It was forming a bud when I bought it at Caerleon 14th feb. The seller was from cornwall so I knew it had been 'encouraged'. Still its ready for the frosts and snow that are suggested in the forecast!

They seem pretty hardy but should the weather turn really cold a piece of fleece would not go a miss.
Have grown a few from seed and one the size you have is already 4/5 years old.

I 'll have to give OH instructions for next week then as I am up at Malham, Yorkshire dales for a week of ecology.

Mine isn't even peeping up above the soil yet, and it was definitely alive and sleeping when I planted it, having brought it from the other place. I must go and search for it tomorrow. I feel very jealous of this flower! I had a good chuckle over atrocity corner though! :))
