The Mighty Oak

I like a good, tall, old oak tree. The bark sticks out like grey corrugated cardboard. The thick lines smudge up the length of the trunk crooked and dark. Yep. A good old oak tree tells you its story, if you let it. If you start off quiet and give it a good rub, it will appreciate the time and attention. It reminds you that things take time.
I took an evening ramble around my hometown and forgot just how many old oaks stake their claim here. I think we are better off with them around. Puts a thought in me to breathe a little and remember things happen, branches break, and we keep on going. Tonight I needed a walk. A good long walk clears the mind, kind like a good swim in the creek. You have those days where not much settles the mind.
