Shorter than the better known callicarpa bodinieri, this reaches about four feet with similar spread. Wonderful autumn colour and the characteristic lilac berries

I think they will only take Zone 6

That is a terrific photo of a lovely shrub...and ...alas...one more time, not hardy enough for my climate.

This is sooooooo lovely. I want to get one. I live in Glos. so would it be hardy enough. I ask because I lost many plants and shrubs to the frosts last winter. Would be much obliged for info.

Breda - it's supposed to take at least -20C so even Gloucestershire should suit it

Thank you so much Andrew, I will now order one and do you think now is a good time to plant one out?

Now is a very good time while the soil is still warm

I tried to order the Callicarpa Dichotoma Andrew but drew a blank. I also tried my local garden centres but no luck. Do you perhaps know where I could order one. Here's hoping, and thanks in advance...

Breda - go on to the RHS website, click on 'Plants' and use Plant Finder to find anyone stocking it. Last time I checked there were only five but one of them was in Gloucestershire

Shazza - this is a relative of callicarpa bodinieri, more usually seen in Garden Centres. It likes a sunny site, and grows about five feet tall by a similar spread. As you can see by the comments above, it is not widely available and you will need to track it down in a specialist nursery.
In previous years, we have had an online discussion about the autumn leaf colour as no reference books or articles mention it. Either I have an interesting variant or my soil is a little on the dry side, causing the effect.
