Poor picture as this is a live (and lively) hatchling. It was a job that required a third hand, one to continually adjust focus, one to move the slide and keep the little critter in view and one to trigger the shutter.

Yes, they are shield bugs. Just found photos on the net.
Well, that's a relief... great pics though
