The Arum in the pond.

The Arum in the pond. (Zantedeschia aethiopica (Arum lily))

I love this plant and it's really happy again. Originally it was a house plant that needed oceans of water to keep it looking fresh so about 10 years ago I popped it onto the shelf in the pond and it grew like crazy. I left it there as the roots had grown enormously over the summer and autumn. The leaves died back, as they do anyway, as we went into winter and up it popped when spring came around. It steadily grew bigger every year until 3 years ago we had a really severe freeze and it looked like it was dead. I cut away the rotten flesh, which stank the yard out, and potted up the tiny healthy bit I found. It's 3 years on now and its back to half the original size. I was wondering if the black Arum my daughter bought me would like to join it in the pond...I might try it if it starts to droop.

Hi Shiela, the 1 in the water is probably Zantedeschia aethiopica which is hardy, but the ones with speckled leaves are not as hardy, so it's up to you whether you want to risk it or not, Derek.
