This is for you Alan.
The American goldfinch (Carduelis tristis), also known as the eastern goldfinch, is a small North American bird in the finch family. It is migratory, ranging from mid-Alberta to North Carolina during the breeding season, and from just south of the Canadian border to Mexico during the winter. The only finch in its subfamily that undergoes a complete molt.

Thank you Klahanie. They love sunflowers I found out. I posted this pic at somebody's request. They are fairly common in my area too.

Thanks Alan. They are only this brilliant during Spring/Summer. Fall/Winter it's hard to tell them apart from the common house finch. Except when they fly, they bobbed up and down.

Karen: They are a very welcomed visitor to the garden. They have a peppery personality - almost comical. I always make sure I have sunflowers growing in the garden for them- it's their favorite food.
