Are these Bilberries?

Pita, they look like Mahonia to me. Now, if I remember rightly from my youth, Bilberrires grow low down, on the moors. We used to go picking them in Yorkshire when I was a child. Their bushes are small...like Cranberry in size.

Definitely not Bilberries ,Pita..as Karen says,they grow low down ,on our moors..and a devil to pick,but gorgeous..much nicer than the American type Blueberries..which to me,are tasteless in comparison..I don't think those you saw,would be suitable for a pie ! :o) x

I certainly will be, I think I'll stick to dandelions, I made dandelion jam, it tastes like honey!

Mahonia aquifolium is a native plant on Vancouver Island and it's berries are edible(not poisonous) but very tart.
You would need lots and lots of sugar to make jam.

Interesting Klahanie, I didn't know they were edible. I think I will stick to the sweeter fruits though, anyway.
