You can just see part of the Yew tree in the back of this photo - it's gone now, and the Cupressus is in its place. What a difference to the light and space it's made!

Well done, K! Prices at the tree nursery we went to were quite high, but at least they know what they're talking about, which I can't say about the GC. I like our nearest GC, but they can't be specialists, can they?

No, I had a bargain too. But they are very expensive aren't they, conifers? That's why I've put it off. Still, it's done now. Just hope they do well in my clay...whoever built the raised beds filled them with clay. Rubbish it is, but it's improving, and I'll keep at it.

The conifer that we removed was planted in gravel - so how it survived for years, I don't know! Yes, they are expensive, but I really wanted something beautiful and evergreen...

Yes, me too. :)

Lovely conifer, they are expensive, only because they are very (slow growing?) we grow a few in our front garden, but they are planted in peat and ericaceous compost...it is lovely having colourful foliage to look at in the winter....

Oh help - should it have gone in ericaceous compost, Dd? It's in a mixture of home-made compost and JI3.

Ideally yes Spritz, well that is what we would have put it in....we were told recently you can plant anything in ericaceous but not the other way round... not too late I am sure.

Ah - I did some research on both of my new conifers, and all the sites, including the RHS, say 'any soil', so I *hope* they'll be OK. I do have ericaceous feed if necessary.

Yes that would do the trick, OH uses seaweed to feed ours.

Does he collect it, or use a bought concentrate?

I love it and its so rewarding when revamping little areas and it works.

Thanks, Stroller. I still walk out there and think what it was like before - such an improvement! :-)

I went to nursery today and found two nice blue ones. A juniper and a Pinus sylvestris. Very pleased with both of them, and they'll be great over the winter. one of these days. I'm going to splash out on a blue spruce....but they are so pricey.
