That is interesting Hywel. I thought it was 'cristata' but when I googled Lace Aloe it said the correct name was Aloe aristata. My book of house plants is a very early version and the name might have been changed. It is interesting that we both found we had the wrong name. I'm wondering if it flowered because it was neglected and thought it had better produce seeds if it was going to be killed off. I'm hopeless with house plants but this belonged to my daughter so I'm not guilty this time. She will want it back when she sees the attractive flower on it. I don't think I will attempt to keep it outside all year. I have an Amaryllis which was given me as a Christmas gift two years ago. It was placed outside in April 2013 and never brought in again. It has a very healthy looking flower bud on it. I am waiting to see what it does and how long it lasts outside. We did have a very mild winter.

I don't think it's frost hardy. I keep mine indoors in the winter.
I've had mine for many years, and I've got two potfulls now. It flowers every year, and did so recently.

Maybe ours just took its time to get started flowering. I think it had better stay indoors over the winter. This one badly needs to be repotted and I think the rosettes at the side may well give us extra plants if I pot them up separately.

It divides easily, and will become a nice potfull soon.
If you go to page 33 of my photos, you will see mine.
There are 4 photos of it and it's flowers.
I've been going to upload a photo of this year's flowers but haven't got round to it.

Not surprising that your photos are so much better than mine. I have had a look at all those photos and I am liking it better all the time. I'll keep an eye out for your new photos.

I've got one of these but I've been calling it by a different name.
I googled it and found that you are right, so I shall change the name on mine now, thank you.
It's nice when you find the correct name for something :o)
