Cabbage

Cabbage

This was a great year for cabbage. I sense a pot of stuffed cabbage rolls in the near future. :)

I can not eat this lol my mother tried to make me eat it but I find it most revolting Yach ! :D

6 Sep, 2014

It has pretty potent smell and taste. I can see why you (and others) would not like it Hywel. But we love it. Do you eat sauerkraut?

6 Sep, 2014

What's that ?

I like white cabbage, but not the green one. I also like the white part of a cauliflower but not the green leaves.

6 Sep, 2014

I find it delicious and quite versatile but I know it's not for everybody. I even shred it and add to chicken soup.

6 Sep, 2014

That is sour cabbage Hywel. Made from the lighter green cabbage.
I also like red cabbage.

6 Sep, 2014

I don't think I'd be able to eat it if it's sour Klahanie :( ...
I don't like red cabbage either lol. Don't they put it in vinegar - that's another thing I don't like - can't stay in the same room as vinegar :(((

I think sauerkraut is made with a brine but I'm sure there are many different versions of it. My mom would often make it as a side note to a pork roast and potatoes. I normally just have on my hot dog slathered with brown mustard and an ice cold Coke.

I'm glad you enjoy it.
I've never heard of it ...

6 Sep, 2014

:) it's not even a real food, It's more like a condiment.

6 Sep, 2014

I see. I eat my food plain :)
I put a tiny bit of pepper, sometimes, but nothing else.

7 Sep, 2014

OK now I understand.

Can I come with you ? I love any green Cabbage..not very keen on the white ones..and I also like the tender green leaves on Cauliflower too..I will pass on Broad beans, and Leeks if that's ok..I only put the latter in a stew for flavour, but hate both as a veg with a meal...green beans are fine :o)..We are all so different in our tastes, aren't we? I often wonder why one thing tastes good to one person, and not to another..and don't even suggest a curry..! my worst nightmare, from the smell alone ..Lol.

I'm with you Sandra. The cabbage becomes mildly sweet and delicious as it stews in the tomato sauce and is wonderful with the seasoned ground beef. I'll pass on the broad beans.

We must have lunch together sometime :o) ha ha..

10 Sep, 2014

I would love that :)

10 Sep, 2014

My treat..Yorkshire Fish and chips..and mushy peas,if you know what they are ! Lol..

10 Sep, 2014

yumm! sounds fantastic. I know exactly what they are . love them .

11 Sep, 2014

Do you have packets of dried peas in the U.S,Paul ? you could make your own,if you do.I make the whole pack, and freeze them in portions..They are called Marrowfat peas here.Sadly, they are not as easy to find in the dried veg section of some Supermarkets now..only packs of 'quick cook' ones, that have lots of Bicarbonate of
Soda in ,which I don't like..so have to get mine from a market stall,or a farm shop..au naturelle ! Lol..Not keen on the frozen ones either,but I guess I'm stuck in a time warp.Lol..

We have farmer's markets all over the place here, especially now during peak harvest season. There is the big one at Union Square, NYC. The farmers come in from all over New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Upstate, New York. I'm sure to find them there, for a song.

11 Sep, 2014

I'm sure you would,Paul..they are quite cheap here,so good value..

11 Sep, 2014

Thanks for the tip. I remember having mashed peas at a restaurant in nyc - served along side a nice steak - quite tasty. Yes, it's hard to go back to frozen once I tried fresh peas. I would absolutely love to come over to the UK and visit you for lunch. I've been there several times before; Leeds, Yorshire, London, Liverpool, Rochester. I even went over to Ireland to visit some relatives who never made it over on the Mayflower, lol! There are more Gallaghers there then there are over here, and we are a small army. I did not make a great first impression in London because I kept knocking people off their bicycles for looking the wrong way for traffic while crossing. The bikes would just hit me and go crashing to the pavement, I just stood there and wondered.

11 Sep, 2014

You never know ,Paul, you might get up to Yorkshire again one day ! :o) I meet Waddy(Julia ) sometimes, for lunch in town,as we live quite near to each other..I'm sure she would join us..:o)
You were very brave to drive in London.. I lived there for a couple of years, but well before your time,I think ! Lol.Maybe as well,as I could have been one of your victims ! ha ha. I used to know one or two Gallaghers..probably they were some of your distant relations :o)

11 Sep, 2014

LOL! Drive in London! I'm not that brave! I meant the bikes would hit me as I was walking along with my friends and tried to cross the street. I hardly flinched, but they went crashing to the pavement, some took a good tumble and cussed me to hell, when I tried to help them up again. However, I did have attend a nice cricket tournament at LORDS which was fun.

11 Sep, 2014

Oh dear..I read it again..NOW,I get it Lol..It wouldn't have been me on a bike either :o) big red bus was my transport ,and walking...Are you a cricket fan,Paul? It would be a nice experience for you..:o)

12 Sep, 2014

I had a great time at Lords. I got to rub elbows with the "who's who" of London, but I didn't know who was who but it didn't seem to matter. After my friends explained what was going on on the field I quickly became a fan. Cigars and cold beer during half-time. I lived at my friend's house in Leeds right near that castle ruin. Had a nice drive along the countryside visiting the country folks. Spent a few days in Liverpool before boarding a big boat for Ireland which is another story.

12 Sep, 2014

I don't understand cricket at all..A batman,Bowler and wickets..that's about it ! Lol..Ah,Liverpool..love that city..worked there too,and that's also another story ! :o)

12 Sep, 2014

Liverpool was quite amazing, but that boat ride from Holy Head to Dublin was quite an experience. I've never been so happy to be on "Terra Firma". Every day an adventure.lol
