The flowers are about 2 inches in diameter. Yes it is very unruly. It's growing all through the hedges, over the wall and everywhere. I tried to cut it down but it keep returning.

The flowers on mine are smaller than 2" so it is not the same vine. Yours also looks more impressive. More blooms than mine. Hope someone will tell you what it is.
Did you try to post in the question section? I have good luck with people identifying my plants there.

Bathgate, I found (accidentally) what this plant is :
Clematis recta (Purpurea). Google it and see if it is the one you have. Lots of people like it.

I think I have it too Bathgate. But I do not know what it is. Some kind of clematis??? It was planted by previous owners to cover a concrete wall but it is so unruly that I want get rid of it ...but it will not let me :=) I am not positive if mine is the same as yours but very similar....if these flowers are tiny.
