San Pedro Cactus,iceplant,California poppy..

You would think we were a dry arid climate. Birch behind the cactus and Redwoods and Pines were down the street!

oh, wow, this is nice. For soggy southeasterners like myself, having cacti growing in the front garden is very exotic! Of course, we have our native opuntia, but nothing else. I love California poppies too.
I listened to a program last week on NPR about the drought in CA. So much worse than I knew :-((

Its getting bad. I was around for the 76-77 drought. This is four years now. Although this year we had near average rain,we had only 20% of the snowpack we need right now.
Next year if no rain, its going to be water just to keep alive..and if some plants cant take that- they will just be replaced when good days return.
Right now ,nobody washes their own car..its car washes to save water.

They were talking about desalination and running a pipeline from the Midwest and even telling people to just move out of the state.
We typically have droughts during summertime, and watering restrictions, and some years our rainfall is low overall, but nothing like CA.
