I think the outsides of the petals are just as interesting as the insides on this specie tulip

what an incredible history this flower has. It's nice to see the specie in a garden. Where did you find the bulbs? You made a trip to that part of the world a couple of years ago, did you not?

Lori - yes, I went to Kazakhstan two years ago, but we went in June when the tulips were over. But I had also been there a few years before in April, so saw many of the tulips in flower then.
Here in the UK, there are almost twenty specialist bulb nurseries that sell it. In Canada, I found it on Tradewinds International website:

Thanks very much, Andrew! :-) I just checked availability at Tradewinds and they're out of stock! Just my luck. I need to check out Vesey's ...I know they have a million var. of tulip.
